Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy
Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy is the most modern and safest surgical treatment for prostate cancer, offering excellent oncological as well as functional outcomes, such as the preservation of continence and erectile function in patients.
Indications
Laparoscopic Radical Prostatectomy is the most modern and safest surgical treatment for prostate cancer, offering excellent oncological as well as functional outcomes, such as the preservation of continence and erectile function in patients.
Advantages
- Excellent oncological results
- Minimal blood loss (no blood cross-matching required)
- Minimal postoperative pain
- Excellent functional outcomes (early return of continence/preservation of erectile function)
- One day hospitalization
Open surgical access requires a large incision in the lower abdomen and is associated with significant blood loss and postoperative morbidity. In contrast, laparoscopic technique allows for the same surgical steps to be performed through a much smaller surgical trauma (five 1-centimeter incisions). At the same time, the establishment of high intra-abdominal pressures reduces venous bleeding from the tissues, thereby minimizing blood loss and postoperative pain. As a result, both hospital stay and postoperative morbidity are significantly reduced.
Additionally, laparoscopic technique utilizes ultra high-definition (4K) monitors that provide the surgeon with a three-dimensional (3D) view of the surgical field, resulting in more precise and detailed handling of the procedure. This leads to better preservation of the anatomical structures responsible for maintaining continence and erectile function. Most patients, even those undergoing the most complex oncological and endourological procedures, are discharged on the first postoperative day and return to their daily activities very soon after.
Robotic Radical Prostatectomy
Robotic Radical Prostatectomy is the new revolutionary minimally invasive technique, offering impressive surgical outcomes and significant benefits for the patient. With the assistance of robotic system, the neurovascular bundles (nerves responsible for erectile function) and urinary sphincters (anatomical structures ensuring continence) are identified and preserved with great precision.
LEFKOS STAVROS – The Athens Clinic has been equipped with the new, state-of-the-art 4th generation Da Vinci X robotic surgical system, which provides our specialized urology team exceptional capabilities to perform surgeries using a minimally invasive and less traumatic approach, with sub-millimeter precision.
The system offers three-dimensional, ultra-high-definition imaging with up to 15x magnification of the surgical field.
Advantages
- More detailed visualization of the surgical field
- Improving fine handling, with millimeter precision, even in the most demanding surgeries.
- Reduction of complications
- Access to innovative treatments
- Best surgical results
- Shorter hospitalization time
- Fewer blood transfusions
- Lower risk of infections
- Minimization of postoperative pain
- Faster recovery
- Best aesthetic result
